Here in San Luis Obispo county, there are some amazing activities and places to take your dog, such as: Avila Beach, Moonstone Beach in Cambria, and Spooners Cove in Montana de Oro State Park.
Avila beach
On those rare days when it’s grey and gloomy anywhere else, count on the clouds to part and the sun to shine down on Avila Beach. With a microclimate so consistent and a small-town charm so enduring, Avila is everyone’s favorite summer getaway.
At the north end of the beach is a sand spit at the mouth of San Luis Obispo Creek where dog owners will be found in the mornings and evenings.
Sun worshippers delight in the expanses of well-kept sandy beach on either side of the historic pier. There’s surfing, kayaking, cycling, and rollerblading; sport fishing and whale-watching; plus great day hikes and peaceful walking paths for you and your pooch.
Moonstone beach – Cambria
Follow signs at the east end of Cambria to the start of the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach, but while on leash they are welcome on the boardwalk that follows this ruggedly beautiful coastline.
Spooners Cove in Montana de Oro State Park
This is a quiet campground sheltered in the hills over looking Spooner’s Cove. The informative visitor center greets you on the way to the campground.
This rural campground has a size limit for RVs and trailers of 28 feet and offers clean pit toilets for amenities. Dogs are not allowed on trails, but leashed dogs are allowed in the campground and beach at Spooner’s Cove.
In conclusion, our county has some of the best coastline to enjoy with your dog.
