List of Candidates for 2022 City Council, Mayor Election

San Luis Obispo’s Office of the City Clerk certified that the names below will appear in the following order on the ballot for the November 8, 2022 Election for City of San Luis Obispo Mayor and two Council Member seats.

The Mayor is elected to a two-year term and Council Members are elected to four-year terms.

MAYOR (Vote for one)

Jeffery Specht, Entrepreneur
Erica A. Stewart, Appointed Incumbent Mayor
Donald E. Hedrick, Artisan Recycler Harbinger
MEMBER OF CITY COUNCIL (Vote for no more than two)

Joe Benson, Attorney
James Papp, Architectural Historian/Businessperson
Michelle Shoresman, Appointed Incumbent Councilmember
Emily Francis, Teacher/Planning Commissioner
In accordance with the Elections Code, the Secretary of State’s office conducted a drawing of the letters of the alphabet to determine the randomized alphabet for use in the election.

The nomination period closed on August 12, 2022. The City of San Luis Obispo is a charter city and operates under the “Council-Mayor-City Manager” form of municipal government. The City Council is the legislative authority and sets the policies under which the City operates. It has the power to adopt ordinances and resolutions, make appointments to the City’s advisory bodies, establish policies and approve programs, appropriate funds, adopt budgets, and approve contracts. The Mayor presides at all meetings of the City Council and is recognized as the official head of the City for all ceremonial purposes.
